ReStore Sets a New Record Sales Day, and Record Week! Thanks to our great customers, donors and volunteers, we blew away our old daily sales record, which was set back in November of 2010 right after we opened. On Wednesday, April 4, we took in a whopping $7,140 in just one day! That successful day contributed to our new record sales week, which we accomplished despite being closed on Good Friday! Thanks to everyone who donates the cool stuff we sell, and to everyone who shops at the ReStore! And of course, we couldn't do it without out team of dedicated volunteers. Hardware Tide Has Come In, Thanks to Nuttle Lumber of Denton and Rommel's Ace Hardware! In late February, the Habitat Choptank ReStore was the recipient of a huge variety of quality, new in the package hardware, tools and other household supplies, thanks to two local businesses. Rommel's Ace Hardware, which operates stores from the Baltimore metro area to Ocean City, provided almost $1 million worth of surplus and discontinued items to ReStores throughout the region. The Habitat Choptank ReStore received around $50,000 from the Cambridge and Stevensville stores. We've sold down much of it, but there's still plenty of bargains to be found on things for the house, yard and garden. Also, Nuttle Lumber of Denton closed its doors in February, consolidating its business at its Rehoboth, Delaware location. The ReStore benefitted not only from a generous donation of merchandise, but we also got a great deal to add some much needed fixtures and displays to our newly expanded store. Thanks to both Rommel's Ace and Nuttle Lumber for supporting Habitat for Humanity! The New Improved ReStore is Open for Business! Thanks to a generous grant from Capital One Bank, we have added almost 2,000 square feet of space to the Habitat Choptank ReStore. The new space gives us plenty of room to display even more building materials, cabinets, appliances, furniture and all the other cool stuff you've come to expect from the ReStore. We've also added a new receiving warehouse, which will allow us to accept even more donated goods from the incredible community of donors that supports us. Stop by today and check out our spacious new store!
Come Watch Us Grow! Construction manager Rhodana Fields and her St. Michael's Tuesday Cre helped the ReStore expand with the addition of a 350 square foot receiving area. It's part of our 2000 sq. ft. expansion that will enable the ReStore to further serve the community in 2012. Come by and see how it's going...
Welcome Racheal Patrice to the ReStore! Racheal comes to us through the Chesapeake Conservation Corps, and is helping us develop new programs that will help make the Habitat Choptank mission even more environmentally friendly. Here she is with volunteer Nathan Kish, who takes care of all or our scrap metal recycling. She'll be helping us research and create a deconstruction program with the goal of diverting additional materials away from the landfill and into the ReStore. She'll also be in the field working with our construction crews to identify ways of making our jobsites cleaner and greener. So stop by and say hi to Racheal! ReStore By the Numbers... Here's a quick snapshot of how your ReStore is supporting the mission of Habitat Choptank: Monthly Volunteer Hours: 745 Donations dropped off at the ReStore per month: 67 (A donation could be a single light fixture, or a whole kitchen full of cabinets) Donations picked up by our truck per month: 41 Total Donations per Month: 108 Funds raised for construction since we opened in Nov. 2010: Over $60,000 Thanks to all of our dedicated volunteers, donors, and customers for helping to build simple, decent homes for deserving families in Dorchester and Talbot counties. Thanks to your efforts, we have generated enough revenue to more than fund half the cost of one Habitat home. We're looking forward to seeing you again in 2012, when our goal is to generate enough sales to pay for an entire house!
Rory logged over 750 hours as our volunteer warehouse manager, leading not only the hours contributed by ReStore volunteers, but also by the entire affiliate! Thanks, Rory for your dedication to serving the housing needs of Dorchester and Talbot counties.
